So I totally did get a job!
I think it was about two weeks after my last journal that I got my permit and then another two weeks until I was hired. I've been working for 5 weeks already!
Where you ask? Why my dear friend, I'm working at the fantastical Atomic Cartoons, creator of Atomic Betty, located not far from downtown Vancouver BC.
I'm working on a new Transformers cartoon for younger kids which I can't tell you anything about, but I'm drawing some of the backgrounds for it and it's a lot of fun. All I do all day is draw buildings, roads, trees and clouds! You want to know the crazier part? We can't do it fast enough! I'm working 10 hour days on buildings and roads and trees and clouds!
In my spare time I'm doing freelance projects for even more money, which is kind of stressing me out. I thought I promised myself to not have to do homework again? Hopefully when they're done I'll have time to make more stuff to post here for your guys.
Weekends aren't long enough!

Art Commissions
I've got some spare time on my hands and I was wondering; is anyone out there interested in commissioning me for some artwork? Alas, I still have no sewing machine, so I won't be taking any requests for hats or plush things, but I did just buy myself a new cintiq, and it's begging to be broken in. I'm up for just about anything.
I was thinking $25 for a single character with a simple background. Background design is also welcomed if you need that.
We can work out a price for whatever else you have in mind. I wouldn't even mind an art trade if you're awesome. ;)
Any takers?
Sleeping In
I'm in Vancouver and unable to get a job. It's not that I can't find someone to hire me, that's not the problem (yet.) It's that I'm waiting for the nice mailman to deliver a legal paper that seems will never work its way through Canadian bureaucracy. I need my work permit!
Until then I find myself stuck in two mind zones - horribly apathetic and lazy and so excited to start ten projects at once!
Stuff I'm working on, want to work on, and will inevitably never work on:
AppleJack Plush (perpetually almost done)
Ilo & Milo Plushies (need to finish drafting the pattern first)
Three more paintings of people interacting with Jesus (one down?)
Some Thoughts on Copyright
I've been reading up on copyright, again. I swear this is probably the fourth time I've spent over an hour reading, searching and puzzling over copyright. The basics are simple, create something and you have the right to control how it's used. Which unless expressly otherwise stated by you, means no one can steal, mass produce or republish your work. But what about derivative work, fair use, and parody?
What is fan art and when and to what extent is it allowed?
Copyright is a big deal, it's the rules about what you're allowed to do with the creative works around you. It's job is to give credit and full control of a work to it's creator.
Life as I Know It
Time I got this up to date again...
So I graduated from the Commercial Animation program at Capilano University, and we had a big grad show downtown Vancouver on April 29th and 30th. I graduated college and turned 20 on the same day! You can see my demo reel here: http://youtu.be/UpsPDQJgM5o
And due to an animation test I took before school was over, I scored a job on a kids show starting in July! So until then I've been seeing family and friends, drawing for myself a bit and doing a little bit of sewing. Which you should buy my hats here: http://clearkid.deviantart.com/journal/22635029/
The future looks bright!

I hope it's not presumptuous to ask after you said no, but do you think you could create a pattern for the Hobbes you made here? [link]
I ask because I want to let you know I would buy it, even if it cost like... $30. I don't care, it's such a good Hobbes, better than any I've seen anywhere else. And I'm sure others would be happy to pay for your pattern, too. It would be another way for you to earn more money, not by freelancing but by creating a product.
At any rate I'll leave this here for you to think about. Congrats on your new job.
